50% Lower Carbon Footprint vs. Bottled Wine

Making & shipping heavy bottles has a huge impact on the environment. In fact, the environmental impact is one of the biggest reasons we decided to start Really Good Boxed Wine in the first place.

Our boxed wines have about 50% the carbon footprint vs. four 750ml bottles of the same wine. This is primarily for two reasons:

  1. Glass is really heavy to ship, and the bottles are usually shipped several times before they reach you. In fact, a lot of glass bottles are made in China and shipped empty across the Pacific Ocean.
  2. It takes a ton of energy and heat to make bottles -- over 2700 degrees worth. Our box and the plastic bag inside are lightweight and easy to produce, and you only need 1 of them for 4 bottles of wine.

Plus, our box is 100% recyclable, so when you're done, break it down and throw it in the recycling bin.

Need more proof? According to the New York Times, switching to wine in a box for the 97% of wines that are made to be consumed within a year would reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 2 million tons. That's the same as removing 400,000 cars from the road!
