How do I open my box of wine?
While it takes a little work, opening a box is still easier than pulling a cork out of a glass bottle. Here's how to do it, or click here to watch a video tutorial:
1. Punch out the circle on the front of the box and pull up on the perforated tab.
2. Reach into the box and pull the spout out through the hole. Don't worry, it won't bite. You’ll find the spout tucked just to one side or right under the front of the bag.
3. Push the perforated tab back down behind the spout to lock it into place. You can rotate the spout without damaging the bag or the wine.
4. Remove the red tab of plastic to unlock the spout.
5. Celebrate with a glass of the first boxed wine you actually want to drink. You earned it!
How is Really Good Boxed Wine better for the environment?
This is one of the biggest reasons we love boxed wine. Our boxed wines have about 84% lower carbon footprint vs. four 750ml bottles of the same wine. This is because glass is really heavy to ship, and the bottles are shipped several times before it reaches you. It also takes a ton of energy and heat to make bottles. Over 2700 degrees worth. Our box and the plastic bag inside are lightweight and easy to produce, and you only need 1 of them for 4 bottles of wine!
The box is 100% recyclable, so when you're done, break it down and throw it in the recycling bin. The plastic bag inside is BPA-free and constructed using Polyethylene terephthalates (PET) and low density Polyethylene (PE) materials. These are sometimes recyclable as SPI 7, so check with your local municipality to make sure. It's contradictory, but when in doubt, err on the side of not recycling if you're not sure, as contamination is one of the leading causes of inefficiency in recycling.
Need more proof? According to the New York Times, switching to wine in a box for the 97% of wines that are made to be consumed within a year would reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 2 million tons. That's the same as removing 400,000 cars from the road!
Can I always get the same wine? Why do some of your wines sell out?
You might notice that our wines show a specific vintage, region, and varietal. Like any winery, we can only produce what nature gives us and a limited amount of wine comes from a vineyard each year. For many of our wines, we will release the next vintage when it’s ready! For others, we are making one-time special releases and when they are gone, they’re gone.
If a wine you love is out of stock, please reach out and we’ll help you select something else you’ll enjoy, or let you know when the next vintage will be coming.
We believe in offering the highest quality wine we can and hope this helps our customers explore new varietals or regions, knowing that everything you try from us is Really Good, even if it’s available for only a limited time.
How is Really Good Boxed Wine different from other boxed wines I’ve had?
You may have tried a boxed wine and disliked it. But it’s not the box’s fault! It’s the actual wine inside that needs to be better. Really good wine is about how it's made and where it comes from, not what package it's in. Our team of sommeliers sources, tastes, and selects from top vineyards and winemakers to create the highest quality wine you'll ever have from a box.
Each of our wine labels tells you the vintage, varietal and region. You can also explore more technical details on each product page. It’s wine you’d expect to pay $30 for in bottle, just in a more convenient and more environmentally-friendly way.
So forget what you’ve thought about boxed wine. Our box is different.
How do you make your wines?
For some of our wines, we purchase grapes from amazing vineyard partners, and crush and ferment in our winery in Healdsburg, CA. For others, we partner directly with award-winning winemakers who produce the wine, and then bring them into our winery for finishing touches.
Our wines are analyzed at several steps in the winemaking process and we use a minimal intervention philosophy, meaning we don’t add anything artificial throughout the process.
Before leaving our winery, we use a process called Crossflow Filtration which removes any impurities, sediment and bacteria. Creating a beautiful drinking experience right from our box.
All of our wines are boxed in Napa, CA on a state of the art Bag-in-Box filler to maintain maximum quality control.
How long can I keep my wine before opening it?
We recommend a one year shelf life for your unopened wine. Like any wine, you’ll want to store our boxes in a cool, dry place for the best conditions to protect the wine inside.
Does boxed wine taste different than bottled wine?
Nope! The BPA-free food-grade plastic bag has no effect on the wine. If you drank the same wine from a bottle and from a box, you'd never know the difference (and neither would a sommelier).
Are your wines ok for specific diets? Vegan?
Yes, our wines are safe for many common dietary restrictions. We are Vegan-Friendly, Gluten-Free, and Low Sugar. So flexitarians, vegans, celiacs, keto-lovers, and more, rejoice and sip some Really Good Boxed Wine!
How much wine is in a box?
Each Really Good Boxed Wine is 3 liters! That’s the same amount as 4 standard bottles of wine. For most people, that’s 20 glasses of joy.
